Join us for a public, virtual event that will bring together media workers to discuss the behind-the-scenes challenges faced when reporting on Palestine. Organized by the Freelance Solidarity Project (FSP), a division of the National Writers Union (NWU), and Just Vision, a nonprofit that fills a media gap on Israel-Palestine through independent storytelling and strategic audience engagement, this discussion will delve into critical issues such as retaliation, bias, and censorship faced by journalists, researchers, and other media workers when covering Palestine.
In May 2024, NWU released Red Lines, a report detailing retaliation faced by Western media workers who spoke up against or critically covered Israel’s war on Gaza or voiced support for Palestinians. Since the release of this report, conditions have only worsened, with increasing levels of retaliation against journalists and escalating censorship in both mainstream and independent media. This event will address how these issues have intensified in recent months and provide crucial insight into the role of the U.S. media in manufacturing consent for the genocide, including the stakes that U.S. media workers face when they push back against the anti-Palestine status quo.
Through this conversation, we aim to shed light on the complexities and mounting pressures involved in this vital reporting, offering a platform for discussion and solidarity among those on the frontlines of media coverage.
